Why is it not convenient to replace the manufacturing of a sustainable and circular economy item such as leather with a synthetic product made of plastic?
The choices we make as consumers, and in particular the materials used in the products we buy, have a significant impact on the environment.
Synthetic materials that want to imitate and replace leather are made from plastic, therefore made from compounds derived from petroleum, a limited natural resource, which beyond the negative environmental impact during its obtaining and production process, is expensive and difficult to recycle and has very poor biodegradability.
The world needs materials that are sustainable, renewable, recyclable, biodegradable like leather, and reduce unnecessary dependence on fossil fuel-based plastic materials. Leather does not create microplastics nor does it remain in the seas or landfills for centuries.
